Abhyantara Does Abhyantara Mean?

The name ‘Abhyantara’ comes from the Sanskrit language which is one f the ancient oldest language spoken on earth, and it has spiritual and philosophical importance that connected to the heart directly what we do here. And its most fundamental level, ‘Abhyantara’ translates ‘the peace within us’, which help you to move towards the quiet, and the radiant inner peace that yoga practice is planned to discover.

In Indian scriptures of philosophy and in the yogic tradition, the word ‘Abhyantara’ is used to narrate the whole inner conciseness of human being — the most important deepest part of ourself is remain calm and not getting disturb and i.e. is without bothering outer circumstances. There is a whole world inside us which is keep on changing minute to minute, the Abhyantara self stays unchanged, divine and completed. Like most of the traditions call the soul, the higher self (who witness the consciousness), — the part of us who observe without going away, and also understand not needed to hold on. In reality personal growth do not come by getting more experience from the outside, rather than it comes from inside, and also from learning to rest in Abhyantara.

The practical language of yoga practice, ‘Abhyantara’ mention in two most important contexts. The first one is Abhyantara Kumbhaka — the practice of holding breath internally after inhalation is consider one of the most powerful in pranayama. When a yoga practitioner inhale deeply and hold that inhalation before it gets release — the whole environment inside the body and the mind changes. The nervous system instantly becomes silent, sense withdrawal happens automatically from any object, and deep calmness begin to rise. The Abhyantara kumbhaka is the art of holding a space inside oneself before it returns to the outer world. When practiced under the guidance it started building the extra ordinary strength, and mental clarity.

The second is Pratyahara — the fifth limb of Ashtanga yoga as mention in the Yoga Sutras which is narrated by Maharishi Patanjali. Pratyahara usually means withdrawal of senses but in true meaning is ‘returning home’. In our normal state of human consciousness, our attention is pulling outward all the time — towards visuals, sound, towards thought and emotions. Pratyahara is the force, the practice of reversing this flow by directing it inner towards the Abhyantara space.

Yoga asana, meditation and pranayama is practiced in a traditional way — all these three are the backbone of our school. When asana is practice with pure awareness it automatically changes from physical exercise which guide student to pull attention inward. Meditation is even deeper which takes the mind into the rest of pure awareness.

We want students first to understand the meaning of our school’s name so they can prepare themselves to come. When you understand the true meaning of ‘Abhyantara’ — you will have an idea that what you gain by going there. We are not inviting you to simply come and take certificate while doing some asana. We are inviting you to learn how to go inward so you can experience the high extra ordinary peace within.
