Your everyday of yoga retreat in Rishikesh begin even before the sunrise. The first hour of your practice start with pranayama and meditation — it just not as warm up for yoga class, but it is a practice in its own traditional way. This is how we practice or teach classical yoga, first we start with breath, second the mind and finally your body comes always.

What makes our 7-day yoga retreat different from others courses — is the deep knowledge and unique daily structure of course. It is not that we teach same kind of class with different method for seven days instead of this we have carefully design the class especially for the growth of students and each class have clear intention, focus. The philosophy class usually go into deep discussion of our Vedic tradition of yoga sutras, Upanishads and Vedanta. The physical practice is designed from basic root level with hatha alignment and to become more demanding — reach day 3 very challenging. Meditation class usually start with basic mantra chanting, chakra healing, and yoga Nidra practice.

Day 1: Arrival & Introduction to Yoga

Accommodation at Abhyantara school designed with only one clear reason: to give proper personal space to rest, recover yourself and to study, and go inward between your yoga and meditation class if you feel tired. This is not a hotel or homestay — this is a real traditional ashram style stay suitable for retreat. Our rooms are neat and clean with ventilation, and very simple like ashrams with basic facilities. Each room is comfortable with attached washroom — space for your personal practice, study table with chair. The atmosphere of school is very quiet. We do not host loud groups and do not permit late night events or anything which disturb the stillness of the yoga retreat which yogis requires.

We are located in one of the beautiful locations of Rishikesh away from commercial market, road traffic sound, but still walkable distance from ashrams and temples. The only sound you will hear in morning is chanting sound from temples and birds chirping. Daily needs groceries shops are available nearby.

Our meditation hall and yoga shala is peaceful for practice — you will experience the same kind of stillness that’s needed to concentrate on your practice where you will feel energy on yoga mat. Yogic Diet at Abhyantara Yoga Retreat — Nourishing Mind, Body and Spirit

At Abhyantara during retreat food is not a side note rather than it becomes important part of practice. It is mention in Indian tradition the whatever you eat it directly affects your prana (life energy), your mental level, and also on meditation how deeply you practicing. This is why we follow sattvic diet throughout during the 7-day yoga retreat in Rishikesh.

Sattvic food is prepared with very a smaller number of spices in it and its completely plant-based diet. It is without onion and garlic because these types of food disturb the nervous system, and also the mind. After following these diets for at least 4 or 5 days you will notice lightness, energized and clarity of mind which you never experienced from food earlier.

Breakfast at Abhyantara yoga usually light includers fresh fruits, oats, poha, idli and herbal teas with seasonal juices. Lunch is the main meal of the day — Indian thali full of vegetables, dal, boiled rice and chapati. Dinner is always served lighter and easy to digest such as vegetable soup, light curries — needed to prepare your body for better sleep so next morning you wake up fresh for the practice.

All meals are served at dining room. We make it sure students should eat food mindfully i.e. mobile away from you and only gentle conversation if you want. During your one-week course food — your mealtime is also become a form of practice.

FAQ — 7 Day Yoga Retreat Rishikesh

We welcome everyone in our 7-day yoga retreat in Rishikesh whether you are beginner or an advanced practitioner. We analyses the group from very first day and adjust the teaching according to the student’s level. You don’t need a prior experience in yoga. You need a genuine intention to show up in class.

During the retreat we teach hatha yoga, yin yoga, and Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) with pranayama and multiple meditation classes in different forms like mantra meditation, chakra meditation. We do also conduct Vipassana style meditation.

This retreat includes 6 nights’ accommodation with three sattvic vegetarian meals with unlimited mineral water. We conduct meditation, pranayama and lectures on yoga philosophy. Students will get neti-pot, Abhyantara yoga kitbag, T-shirt. The most important school provide complimentary free pick-up from Dehradun Airport at 10 AM and 4 PM on arrival day.

At Abhyatara three sattvic vegetarian meals served daily — Breakfast, lunch, and dinner — one green tea in late afternoon. Plant based diet with light spices free from onion, garlic and caffeine etc. our meals are prepared at center only. If you have dietary restrictions then feel free to write at the time of booking.

Abhyantara is located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand — one of the holy lands of India. We are very short walking distance from holy River mother Ganges, Himalayan mountains visible from our centre. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun which is almost 15 kilometre away from our retreat centre.

All yoga classes, meditation, and discussion are usually conducted in English. Our teachers are experienced and have been continuously working with the students from different background — Student whose mother tongue is not English they can also easily complete the course. Sanskrit term is used in yoga asana’s name only
